How to Choose a Microsoft 365 Copilot Readiness Consultant

Compare the review boundary, permission evidence, remediation approval, and handoff before choosing Copilot readiness consulting.

Choosing a Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness consultant starts with the decision your team needs to make. If unclear SharePoint and OneDrive access is delaying rollout, look for a bounded access assessment with customer-approved changes and a written recommendation. If the access boundary is understood, a controlled pilot or adoption review may be the more useful starting point.

GlobalAdmins provides Copilot readiness consulting through the Copilot Data Exposure Sprint. This guide explains the questions to ask any provider, including us.

What should a Copilot readiness assessment cover?

A useful assessment connects the rollout decision to evidence. Agree which sites, sharing policies, users, and reports will be reviewed; what will be sampled; and what will remain outside scope. Ask the provider to name the customer owners who approve access and changes.

Microsoft's secure and governed Copilot deployment guidance explains that Copilot grounds responses in data the user already has permission to access. Existing oversharing therefore needs attention before wider use. A license check or an impressive demonstration does not establish that the access is appropriate.

Questions to compare consulting proposals

QuestionEvidence to request
What decision will this engagement support?A stated rollout, remediation, or pilot decision with a customer sponsor.
What is the review boundary?Named sources, approximate site count, selected sharing policies, and sampling limits.
Who approves administrator access and changes?A customer-approved access plan and a change-by-change approval path.
What happens to findings outside the fixed scope? An exposure register and prioritized backlog with owners.
How will we accept the work?Agreed deliverables, review meeting, exceptions, and a written handoff.
Which controls are actually available in our tenant?A tenant and licensing check against current Microsoft guidance.

Readiness assessment, pilot, or adoption review?

  • Access is unclear: assess existing SharePoint and OneDrive exposure before expanding access.
  • Access is understood but business fit is untested: define a controlled Copilot pilot with selected users, workflows, and acceptance criteria.
  • Licenses are assigned but value is unclear: baseline use and test improvements through Copilot adoption consulting.
  • Content is moving or needs restructuring: scope the SharePoint architecture or migration work that establishes the destination and ownership model.

These are different decisions. Confirm the starting point before combining them into a larger engagement.

What does GlobalAdmins offer?

The Copilot Data Exposure Sprint is designed for Microsoft 365 organizations with 100–500 employees and a defined rollout concern. Its stated boundary is up to 100 SharePoint sites and selected OneDrive sharing policies, sampled high-risk access, and up to 10 customer-approved remediation items. The planned engagement is 2–3 weeks, with actual scope, staffing, timing, and fees agreed in writing before work starts.

The handoff includes an exposure register, accountable owners, a prioritized backlog, and a go/no-go recommendation. It does not promise full-tenant cleanup, zero exposure, a compliance opinion, or a guaranteed business result. See the complete scope and boundaries.

What should your team prepare?

Bring an approximate site count, current Copilot stage, the business decision, a security sponsor, and the desired timing. Identify who owns SharePoint administration and who can approve changes. Do not send passwords, tenant credentials, or sensitive documents through the inquiry form.

Use the SharePoint and OneDrive permissions checklist to organize the first conversation. Confirm licensing and available controls against Microsoft's current Copilot license guidance, rather than assuming a particular feature is included.
